Deforest Buckner, Solomon Thomas, Arik Armstead, and veterans Elvis Dumervil and Earl Mitchell and that’s just part of the rotation in this year’s front line defense. This is the first season in two full years that you can actually clearly see the potential for domination. Those studs are backed up by a linebacker crew that features Bama star Reuben Foster, flanked by veterans Navorro Bowmen, Malcolm Smith and Ahmad Brooks. There are no scrubs on this years defensive roster.

The 49ers Earl Mitchell allowed no running up the middle, Deforest Buckner, Arik Armstead, Chris Jones, and UDFA Jimmie Gilbert took no prisoners as they destroyed the 49ers offensive attempts, snap after snap during OTAs. That group notched 6 sacks on the day. BTW UDFA pass rusher Jimmie Gilbert had 3 of those 6 sacks. What do we have here?! Gilbert weighs a light 230LBS, but his height, and long limbs make him an absolute menace. He was unblock-able. The pads aren’t on yet so we’ll have to see what happens next week. He has been out playing 6th round draft pick Pita Taumopenu since camp started.

Elvis Dumervil will add 250LBS more violence to a the 49ers defensive line this season. If there was any questions about the LEO position in the segue to the 4-3 they’ve been answered.
The Navorro Bowman matter continues but only in the mind of Grant Cohn of whom has to be worried if Bowman makes the team, and most of us believe that will be the case. Rueben Foster needs Bow the 49ers need his vet leadership and basically even the 49ers would be afraid to release Bowman!

That group has to be reduced to a maximum of 4 and minimum of 3 If Kyle Juszczyk is not categorized as an “OW” he will be included in that group. There will be some really talented running backs leaving the 49ers.
